Alberto Velazquez for City Council D2
My name is Alberto Velazquez, and I am proud to announce my candidacy for Yonkers City Council District 2. My whole life has been dedicated to the people of our great City. I am a 26-year employee of our Yonkers Public School. Since 2021, I was elected as President of the Civil Service Employees Association Unit 9169, where I have fought for the hardworking employees of our School District. I am also involved in many local nonprofit organizations and charities that benefit Yonkers including ACDY (Dominican Cultural Association of Yonkers), Youth and Senior Empowerment Foundation, Alpha Elite Sports, and Give Back and Rebuild.
I am running for Yonkers City Council District 2 because of my passion to bring about positive change for our community. We need a City Councilperson that is solely focused on the important issues facing District 2 including tackling the high cost of living, quality of life issues associated with a growing city, and the need to continue to fully fund our schools.
The current Councilperson has voted against the extension of term limits twice but is still seeking a 4th term on the City Council despite already serving 3 terms. In the past Mayoral campaign, the current councilperson completely ignored the district leaders of our party and challenged Mayor Spano in a democratic primary despite Mayor Spano receiving a unanimous endorsement by the Yonkers Democratic Committee. Our current councilperson is absent from the district and failed to deliver the leadership our communities desperately need.
